School Direct is a new pathway for graduates who want to pursue a school-based training route into teaching. As a Lead School, Glen Hills works alongside the University of Northampton and our partnership schools to provide high quality training on the School Direct programme.
There are two types of School Direct programmes.
Under the School Direct (Salaried) route, a trainee will be employed by one of the partnership schools and receive a salary while they train to become a teacher. (This route provides an alternative to the Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) which comes to an end in 2013). Within our partnership of schools, you will be paid at least on point 1 of the unqualified teachers’ scale. The Lead School pays your training fees via this route.
Under the School Direct Training Programme a trainee will be based for a large part of their training in one of the partnership schools but will pay fees for their training programme. Student support is available for some students in this route (e.g. student loans) and trainees can also receive bursaries during training. Further details can be found at www.education.gov.uk.
